Silta is a non-profit student residence and cultural center that opened its doors in 2011 to provide accommodation and activities for women students. Silta originally began its activities in 2002, when it offered academic after-school programs for young students. In 2009, a major renovation of the building was initiated with the financial support and loans of many individuals, and Silta was reopened as a student residence in 2011.
Silta-Klubi has always been open especially to women students who wish to succeed in their studies and develop into morally responsible individuals in a family-like environment that is academically inspiring and encourages active participation in society. As a cultural center, Silta aims to support and strengthen the personal development and learning of women students by creating a family-like atmosphere, supporting academic studies, and opening new ways of thinking through lectures, meetings, and voluntary activities.
The activities of Silta-Klubi are based on Christian principles. Participation is open to everyone regardless of personal beliefs. For those who are interested, the club offers spiritual activities, which are provided by Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church.
Opus Dei is an institution of the Catholic Church and an international organization. It was founded in 1928 by the Spanish priest Josemaría Escrivá, who was later canonized by Pope John Paul II. The mission of Opus Dei is to spread awareness that all Christians are called to live an authentic Christian life and to serve others in their everyday life and professional work.
Opus Dei offers spiritual formation and support to those who are interested, helping them to find God in everyday life. Opus Dei is responsible for safeguarding the Christian values of the student residence.
